Pscc, the ucc & the Still Speaking Initiative

The story has been told for years. Once upon a time, comedy’s first couple were having a conversation. In the midst of it Gracie Allen turned to her husband, George Burns, and said, “Never put a period where God has placed a comma!”

It is from this story that the United Church of Christ has developed a slogan and image for its new national identity campaign. The slogan is “God is still speaking!” and the image is that of a simple comma. Nationally run television ads, along with our own local campaign, lift up the idea that all people are welcome in our churches.

Pleasant Street Congregational Church, UCC of Arlington, Mass. is a member church of the United Church of Christ, and an active Still-speaking church. As such, we offer a warm & genuine welcome to guests and newcomers. We are reaching out to those who have been hurt by the church or who have never gone to church, but are seeking ‘something more’ in their lives. We are working to strengthen our church’s spirit, programming, and visibility. Like the UCC as a denomination, we believe our vital & loving community of faith is a well-kept secret that must be shared!
